About Their Behavior Rubric
When building their behavior rubric, Scott Middle School in the Lafayette Parish School System in Louisiana, focused on the positives! The PBIS committee at Scott Middle developed the rubric to contain three separate sections to suit their school best. Students can only receive points at this school; no deductions.
1. Positive Behavior
This section allows students to receive points for quite a few tasks that we all encourage in our classrooms, like coming prepared, demonstrating a positive attitude, following instructions, participating, respecting others, and staying on task. One possible way to get points in this section that we love is by demonstrating leadership skills. Having students practice leadership skills at this age is very beneficial in the long run.
2. Teacher Choice - Need Comment
The PBIS team at Scott Middle gives teachers the opportunity to give points for things they feel are point worthy. All they ask is for a comment to be added to the point(s) so students, parents, and other staff members can keep track.
3. Nine Week Awards
We thought this idea was a great way to reward students for their hard work once the quarter was completed. Students get rewarded for using less than ten bathroom passes, having growth on iReady, receiving A or A/B Honor roll, perfect attendance, and bringing their report cards back signed.
